Grahame Holstein J.P., OAM, has been serving the people of Gloucester for many years, both through his business and through his many charitable works in the community.

Born in Roma Hospital in Gloucester, Grahame went to Gloucester Primary & High Schools. He married Mavis in 1963 and they have 5 children:-
  • JO-ANNE married Andrew Low
    Children: Joshua, Timothy, Matthew, David, Jonathan, Hannah & Danielle.
    They live at Tinonee. Jo-anne has produced a CD titled LORD OF MY LIFE
     
  • MARK: Lives in Sydney.Has produced 3 CD's and donates ALL proceeds to an orphanage in Africa.
     
  • CHARISSA: Married Eugene Yavtucovich                  
    Children: Courtney and Ashley. 
    Charissa is a paid secretary at her church & Eugene is very successful in the printing business..
     
  • SHAYNE: Married to Calida Lord and they live in Stroud.  
    Children: Audrey and Felicity
    Shayne works for Radio Rhema FM in Newcastle and runs Bucketts Radio

     
  • RACHELLE: Married to Craig Hawkins
    Children are: Damon, Joel, Clint and Serena.
    They live in Tasmania.Craig works in the timber industry and they both own the SEA-HORSE AUSTRALIA  business at Beauty Point..

Grahame began at Burleys Garage in 1955 as petrol pump attendant, and later combined this with spare parts, becoming spare parts interpreter for the then new Gloucester Toyota, where he became a director. Since the closure of Gloucester Toyota several years ago, Grahame has enjoyed running his own small Used Vehicle Dealership - GWH Sales - where he continues to give personal service to the people of Gloucester.

Grahame believes in getting involved in the community where he lives and works and has recently been presented with an OAM. He is a winner of the Rotary 'Citizen of the Year Award', in 1991 and Gloucester Australia Day Citizen of the Year in 1995. He has also just received a Rotary 'Exceptional Service Award' in 2005. He has been awarded the RSL Meritorious Service Jewell. He is heavily involved in the fight to retain Gloucester railway services. He is a major supporter of Gloucester Hospital and is a frequent visitor to patients, and has since 1985 co-ordinated the weekly church services at the nursing home.

Grahame was the inaugural president of Gloucester High School Council and past president of Gloucester Safety House, was the founder of Help At Any Hour which was in existence for 20 years. He is president of Gloucester Charities - a charity he started to make sure no Gloucester resident is ever without food, clothing or shelter. He is organiser for the Gloucester district of the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal; Volunteer supervisor of the Youth Centre; past president and current member of Rotary and a recipient of Rotary's highest honour, Paul Harris Fellow. He is also a member and past president of Gideons and enjoys table tennis and golf.

Grahame is also a talented amateur magician! He uses his magical talents to entertain during fundraisers and to entertain the children of his customers. He is patron of the Newcastle Society of Magicians.
